Review: "Nature Girl" (a guide to caring for God's creation)

An Amazing New Book for Pre-Teen, Tween, and Young Teen Girls About Preserving God's Creation In Fun and Creative Ways!
The new book Zonder-Kidz Nature Girl by Karen Whiting and Rebecca White is completely cool from cover to cover.  Part information, part recipe book, part activity, and all completely hands on and engaging for young girls look for ways to serve God and serve His creation.
Covering big topics like beauty products, healthy food, animal care, and sustainable power along with the usual topics of recycling and conservation.   Instead of just giving young female readers a bunch of statistics and guilt, this book instead is full of ways to actively do something about the topics it is addressing.
Simple and delicious recipes are spread through out the book along with easy to do activities and projects that any young girl will be sure to love to try out this coming summer.   The final 2 chapters wrap up the book with a positive spin about throwing a fun party in the park and having the right attitude in order to be a real "Nature Girl"!
My own pre-teen daughter loved this book.  She loved all the recipes, activities, and we have been doing the end of the chapter quizzes together so be can both learn more about how to be better stewards of God's creation.  If you are looking for a excellent book for your daughter or the girls in your ministry to check out this summer, be sure to pick this one up soon!!

Top 10: Adult Service... Summer Music Festival-Style?

It is almost that time of year again.  The time of year when you pack up your students head to the old summer music festivals. Whether it is the BIG ones like Ichthus, Creation,  and Cornerstone or the more local small ones like we have around here in the mid-west like Alive.  Wherever you go students always have a great time and come back pumped for God and Worship. Here is my thought why not bring home the Summer Christian Music Festival excitement to your church...on Sunday Morning in ADULT WORSHIP by having...

10. Food Vendors. ( You know a funnel cake would really add to the service)

9. Being able to show up to worship in your swimsuit and flip-flops.
(new meaning to no shoes, no shirts, no problem?)

8. Music Pastor "Shotguns" a Monster Between Sets
(throws the can out into the crowd of course)

7. Stand Up Comedians before the sermon
(because the Sr. Pastor, only thinks he is funny)

6. Final Song Confetti Cannons
(right at the end of "Victory in Jesus"...BAM)

5. "Praise Pit" Down Front. (
as Kid Rock said- "get in the pit and try to love someone..")

4. More than one stage.
(main stage, hard core stage, senior saint polka stage...)

3. Stage Dives & Crowd Surfing
(enough said..)

2. Porta-Potties in the back. (
so you don't have to make that long walk!)

1. Mud Slip n Slide Down the Center Aisle
(usher wouldn't have "walk" to the front for offering!?)

Just a thought...I really think that Grandma Bertha who was a founding member in 1936 would really be into the changes. She already has the Blue Hair!!?

Teaching Clip #20 : "What is Your Biggest Mistake?" (w/suggested verses)

Verse Suggestions:
- Psalm 37:24
Though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand
- Proverbs 28:13
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
-  Philippians 3:13
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead
- James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer or a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Hint/Help #11: "Keep Them in the Loop"

Keep Your Senior Leadership In the Loop. ...Keep the people above your aware and informed about your ministry, even if they say you don't have too. It is guaranteed to keep you out of trouble and is always a great fall back to be able say that the people above you had knowledge of what you are doing.

Kurt Johnson, Jr. High Youth Ministry Guru, once gave this plan:

It has become a huge part of my ministry vision and style. Even though my Sr. leadership trust me as the "expert in my field" and don't believe micro-managing, I still regularly email the whole pastoral team the same youth ministry update that I send to my parents. I call it the "parent, partner, pastor update". Besides that I will often leave a message, stop them in the hall, or write a quick handwritten note tell them about one great thing that has been going on.

It is a great fail-safe for my ministry, but it is much more importantly a way to get some prayer support/spiritual cover!

Teaching Clip: #19 -"Letter to a Person on Thier First Day on Earth" (w/lesson idea)

- If you were to write a letter to "a person on their first day here" what you would include?
- What would you not include?
- What is the greatest piece advice some one has ever given you? Who was it?
- What is best advice that you have ever found in the Bible?

1. Know the Creator of the Planet
  - Prov. 9: 10
2. Grow in the Creator of the Planet
   - II Peter 3:18
3. Show the Creator of the Planet
    - II Cor. 4:7
- Have students write their own "letters to a person on their first day on earth", have them read them to their small group or in smaller groups.

Hint/Help #10: "Every Church is a Sub-Culture"

Each Church Is It's Own Sub-Culture....Every church has it's own traditions, words, rules, and personality. Take the time when you arrive at a church to ask questions, learn and don't just assume things.

Churches like other countries and even families have their own ideas and definitions when it comes to ALOT of things. Just because the denominational name on the front sign is the same as the one you grew up in or your last church, does not mean it is all the same.

- Words mean things, and sometimes they mean different things.  The word "fellowship" can mean two completely different things to you and your church.

The "Sacred Cows" sometimes are still giving some "sacred milk" be aware of what has always been "tradition", understand who is connected to it and where it came from.

- People are people are people, take the time to find out the personalities of the leadership, but also of the church as a whole.  Individual personalities are important to know, but the group personality is even more important to know.  It WILL effect so many different things.

- For slightly less messy version consider using refriderated pre-cooked pasta similar to "Buitoni"?

New U Can Use: "$250 Million For A 14-Year-Old's Big Idea: Origami Owl"

"All Isabella “Bella” Weems really wanted was a used car. That desire set in motion a chain of events that led to the Arizona teenager spearheading what is now a multi-million dollar enterprise that she may someday control. When she finishes school, that is.
Weems, now 17, is founder of Origami Owl, a custom jewelry company whose direct sales business model turns would-be entrepreneurs into salespeople and evangelists. The company, which she founded in 2010 at age 14, generated $24 million in revenue in 2012 and this year expects to reach $250 million, according to the company...."  ( READ MORE AT FORBS MAGAZINE)

" Whatever you want to do in life, chances are, someone else has been there, done that. Instead of admiring--or envying--their success from afar, savvy entrepreneurs tap one to be a mentor.

Fashion designer Isabella Rose Taylor did, and it’s landing her juniors clothing line on a rack in Nordstrom this fall. The Austin, Texas girl was eight years old when she attended a sewing camp. Soon after, she started making her own clothes. Her designs drew compliments, then her friends started asking her to sew clothes for them, and just a few months later she held her first trunk show in a local boutique...."

Teaching Clip #17: "Redeem Yourself" (*Eph. 2:1-9)

Suggested Bible Verse: Eph. 2:1-9:
"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[ and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."
