Review: "Nolichuck! TJ's Wild Frontier Adventure"- Keene

Nolichuk! TJ’s Wild Frontier Adventure, is a young teen fiction novel about the adventures of a time-travelling teen named TJ. It is the first in the Green Book series by Jackson Keene.   The story follows the main character TJ from the present (2011) into the American frontier, where he encounters bandits, shoot outs,  Indians, and joins the lives of a Christian family.

The storyline is full of historically accurate portrayals of the early American west.   There are variety of adventures and situations that keep the story moving along.   The premise and writing overall is targeted for a young Christian teen reader, while a bit of violence and some strong language laced through out is not.

The story has some redeemable qualities and there is a light positive Christian message.  Due to the content and language, unfortunately I do not see how it can be used as a tool in my ministry setting working with middle school and Jr. high students, the book’s target audience.
